Rehearsal Essentials

So today I am going to talk about my rehearsal essentials/things that I like to bring to rehearsals.

1. Hair Ties
So the first thing that I bring to rehearsals are hair ties, or headbands, anything to put my hair back and out of my face well learning or rehearsing a dance. Some good hair ties are the non-crease hair ties, which all come in cute colors and designs, but they do a good job in keeping your hair out of your face.

2. Comfortable Clothing
Usually if you are a high school student like me, your rehearsals are after school. So I like to bring a change of clothing so I can change into better clothes for dancing, like a t-shirt and yoga shorts, or leggings. and of course, I usually wear a theatre shirt ;)

3. Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer is on my list of essentials because there are a lot of germs going around, especially if people in the cast are sick! So this is a good way to clean your hands and get the germs off, and stay healthy for the show!

4. Snacks
Usually rehearsals are long, so I like to bring a snack to eat in the small break times we get! I like to get snack bars, because they are quick and easy to eat, and also give you energy to do those dances!

5. Phone & Headphones
Obviously, you would have your phone with you always! But I like to have my phone and headphones with me so if there is down time and I can listen to showtunes, check on the theatre twitter universe, or listen to the songs from the show I'm doing so I can go over dances.

6.  Pencils/Highlighters
I like to have pencils and highlighters with me so when we are learning music/lines I can put notes in my script or the music. Always use a pencil, so if you have to erase the note, you can! And I always have a highlighter or two so I can highlight my lines or certain notes in a song.

7. Jazz Shoes & Character Shoes
I always have one of or both of these types of shoes in my rehearsal bag. Sometimes a certain color of style are required for the show you're doing. I have a pair of black character shoes, nude character shoes, and a pair of black jazz shoes, which I use mostly for my camps down in Delaware.

8. A Bag
You obviously have to have something to carry all your essentials in! I like to use either my Victoria Secrets backpack, or my new Forever 21 tote bag, which is what I used this year as my rehearsal bag for Grease & Mamma Mia.

9. A Water Bottle
I always have a water bottle of some sorts with me during a rehearsal. I usually fill it with just water, or I flavor my water with Crystal Light or Mio flavoring. Water is very important, so you don't get dehydrated!

The Adventurous Adventures Of Lexi Walker

Hello All!

I have returned from theater, the beach, the lake, etc. I have had such a busy summer, I've barley had time to blog! ( EEK!) But, I am back, and I have stories to tell.

My typepad blog has been suspended, so I have come back to this one. I have no idea WHY it was suspended, but it was.

1. My Theater Resume Collage
I've always wanted to make one of these, so I finally got around to it! I will be talking about Hello Dolly & Thoroughly Modern Millie, because those were the two I was in this summer.

2. Hello Dolly!
I was in 2 productions, so here are pictures and stories from both! first, SMT Hello Dolly.

SMT Hello Dolly:
In this production, I was in the chorus.
( This was my bow tie for when I was a waiter in the Waiter's Gallop.)

( My coustume!)

( Me and my friend Anne, she was a horse in the opening number.)

( Harmonia Gardens!)

( And a lovely picture of me backstage that my friend took of me.)

It was so much fun doing Hello Dolly with this cast, everybody did so well! and here are bullet points of the hilights of the experience :)

  • I now have 5 daughters and 1 son, and 2 husbands
  • I had a really fast quick change, which forced me to where my waiters costume underneath my other costume  which caused me to break my hook on my skirt, making it almost fall off on stage
And now onto Clear Space Hello Dolly!

Clear Space Hello Dolly:

( Me in Elegance.)

( Me and Cornelius during It Only Takes a Moment.)

( It Only Takes a Moment :3)

Hilights from this show were:

  • Being Irene Malloy
  • Getting to " Polka my way into a courthouse"
  • Getting arrested, but then gets out of it by singing a love song
  • Getting picked up by Cornelius trying to escape from Vandergelder
  • During the last show, Cornelius' suspender came loose during the polka, so I had to hold onto it on his shoulder so it didn't fall off
  • During it only takes a moment, he kisses me on my cheek, and after the first show, people were asking us backstage if we had actually kissed, not a kiss on the cheek, because it apparently looked liked we kissed ;)
3. Thoroughly Modern Millie

( A terrible picture of me and Chris.)

( Me and Jimmy {The SAME guy who played Cornelius} durning our {2nd} love song)

( Me and Jimmy during I turned the corner)

Hilights from TMM:

  • Getting to be with Alex AGAIN as a stage couple, even our directer from the first week was like " There's Lexi and Alex"
  • Getting to do a whole song about forgetting a boy
  • Getting to act like we were on a window ledge a few hundred feet in the air
  • Getting to sing a song about wanting to be rich

I had so much fun, and I cant wait till next summer :)

Romeo & Juliet

You know you're an obsessed theater kid when you ask if you can answer questions/read the prologue of Romeo & Juliet

(A picture from West Side Story, a modern version of Romeo & Juliet)

Anyways, the matinee of our musical, The Pajama Game, was today. We did well, and Devon was amazing!! A piece of set broke, and Devon improvised right on the spot! And he had to do that TWICE.
